Procedure
Part 1 Friction Overview

1. Setup the experiment with a string connecting Force Sensor with the wooden block. Place a total of 1 kg mass on top of the block. The range switch on the Force Sensor must be set to 50 N for this experiment. Load the relevant experiment from a link under the web browser favorites.
Sketch in your notes the experimental setup including what components are being used and how they are connected. This part (Part 1) is to get a feel for the experiment and record a sampling of what it will yield.
2. Run some tests in conducting the experiment (if you are working with a partner, have them also try the various parts). Click "Start" to begin collecting data and practice pulling the block and masses with the Force Sensor using this straight-line motion: Slowly and gently pull horizontally with a small force. Very gradually increase the force until the block starts to slide, and then keep the block moving at a constant speed. Adjust the graph scales for the best view.
3. Repeat the process as needed until you have a graph that reflects the desired motion, including pulling the block at constant speed once it begins moving.
In your notes, sketch of copy of what you observe with the computer (the graph on the computer) along with a rough scale. Indicate on your sketch the value of peak static friction force and of average kinetic friction force.
4. If you are working with a partner, repeat the experiment to produce a separate, different computer graph for your partner.
