Grading
The division of marks for the lab is as follows:
|
Lab points |
50% of lab grade |
Two lab quizzes for total of |
50% of lab grade |
Total lab grade |
100% |
This total lab grade then forms 20% of the final course grade. In order to pass the physics lab a student must achieve at least 45% in the total lab grade, with all experiments done. A physics lab pass is required to pass the associated physics course.
Lab points are earned each period for various activities and assignments. Examples of lab points that might be assigned are: point for coming on time, point for bringing your notebook, point for correctly answered pre-lab questions. Where and how many lab points will be given for some activity will be explained before the activity (no surprises). To collect any lab points, you must attend the lab.
Quizzes are open notebook, given during a lab period. They are designed to test that a student has correctly done and understood the lab investigations. To receive credit for a quiz question, the student must have attended and conducted the experiment for which the quiz question applies. Students receive zero for quiz questions based on experiments that they have not done. Students will have all the answers to the quiz questions in their notes if they work through, record and understand the various parts of each lab period.
